Notting Hill Carnival 2016

Held every bank holiday Monday in August, Notting Hill carnival is one of my favourite events to attend in London. The carnival is one of the biggest of its kind in Europe, and originated in the 1960s to celebrate African-Caribbean culture.

We started off our day pretty early by arriving at 10:00am. The streets were eerily empty, as the roads were cleared off all cars for the huge party to get underway. Most homes were boarded up as a protection measure. London stood calm and peaceful as we arrived, which was a surreal experience as London is never quiet. The roads were completely empty.
